Sisu is a collection depicting courage
Sisu is a collection that tells the story of a woman who, after 20 years of silence, found the courage to break the cycle and reclaim her voice!
Rather than stay in a landscape of suffering and tears, I chose to turn my healing into art. With every brushstroke, I painted my way through pain, wounds, memory, and recovery. The canvas became a place where what could not be spoken could finally be expressed
The collection carries the symbolism of a phoenix rising from the ashes a transformation born from profound pain, yet moving steadily toward freedom. Each painting reflects a stage of this journey: from captivity to awakening, from silence to expression, and from survival to liberation.
Sisu explores the fragile boundary between fantasy and reality, while each painting contains a duality of backgrounds that speaks to the relationship between the part and the whole. These contrasts echo the complexities of love and betrayal, vulnerability and strength, the material and the spiritual, and the patience and resilience required to heal
For me, painting became more than an artistic practice. It became an act of survival, a language for the unspeakable and ultimately an act of freedom.
I chose the name Sisu because it was the nickname given to me at the safe house on my second day there. The word came to represent something I was beginning to discover within myself: the quiet strength to endure, the courage to continue, and the determination to reclaim my life.
Sisu is not only the story of what I survived. It is the story of how I found my way back to myself!
